Excerpt

“Mercy.”

Admiration laced Ramona’s voice. Kyleigh glanced at her daughter then turned to see what she gawked at. Her son-in-law, flanked by a cowboy, strolled toward them. Her heart did an irrational little twirl, pulse scrambled into high gear. Kyleigh bit back her own murmur of appreciation of the lean physique, muscled forearms and bulging biceps poured into the shirt stretched across a broad chest. Her fingers itched to stroke the salt and pepper hair peeking out from under his hat and curled over his collar. Smooth shaven for the most part, the man’s tanned cheeks hinted at a five o’clock shadow just below the surface. Sexy. Kyleigh shook herself mentally as the two men approached.

“I think we’ve found our wrangler.” Robert said. “Ladies, meet Lance Stevens. Lance, my wife, Ramona Evans and…” He grinned and bowed low, then rose with a flourish of one arm toward Kyleigh. “Mistress of the Silver Star, my mother-in-law, Kyleigh Winters.”

Eyes the color of dark roasted coffee swept over her in a gaze as potent as a caress, then locked with hers. Lance tipped his hat and grinned. A dimple creased his cheek. “Ma’am,” he drawled.

Research Tidbits

I’m not a fan of research which is why I write contemporary romance LOL! Sometimes I’ll research an area where my book is set but this one is in the Texas Hill country as most of mine are. I’ve lived, worked, and travelled the Hill Country for many years so describing the area is easy. Kyleigh and Lance visit Lost Maples State Natural Area which I have hiked before. And it’s a beautiful place.

Interview Questions

1.    Is there a genre of book you would like to write but haven't yet?

Sometimes I think I’d like to write traditional romance with steamy love scenes. I started one but haven’t had the time or inclination to finish it.

2.  Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story, or do they develop as you write?

Not at all. I’m 100% pantster when it comes to my stories. A scene may flash in my mind or a character shows up and starts talking to me. Sometimes I overhear a snippet of conversation and off I go.

3.  What are your hobbies?

READING, Dancing, Walking, Hiking, Horseback Riding. Swimming (in a pool where I can see what’s in there with me LOL!) I love being outdoors so camping could be listed as a favorite hobby as well as travelling.

MY HEART WEEPS

Welcome Pamela S. Thibodeaux to
Book Treasure Tuesday!

 Introduction

I am a mother, grandmother, and author of “Inspirational with an Edge!”™ women’s/romantic fiction and creative nonfiction.

Sneak Peek

MY HEART WEEPS is two years old! Birthed (published) on August 18th, 2020, and eight years in the making, this book was released on the 11th anniversary of my husband’s death.

Genre: Inspirational Women’s Fiction // Heat Level: Subtle

When life takes everything, your world stops. Can a retreat heal the broken lives of two wounded souls?

Melena Rhyker’s world shattered the day her husband died. Lost without the man of her dreams, she digs deep to find a path out of her sorrow. Discovering an artistic retreat, she vows to find a reason to carry on and focus her life in a new direction. Can she heal her own heart, and find her new beginning?

Garrett Saunders knows pain. He’s spent most of his life hiding from his past. Regrets and lies haunt him, but he longs to leave them behind and embrace his true self. Will Melena’s efforts to rebuild her life in the face of such grief encourage him to exorcise his own demons of guilt and shame?

Will two hurting people find peace, wholeness and perhaps love in the heart of Texas?

 Excerpt

She took Jon’s picture off the table, caressed the beloved image. She’d talked to him every day the last thirty years of her life and had no qualms about talking to him now. Far sight better than talking to herself.
Maybe.
She swallowed convulsively and stroked his face, his smile, his eyes. “I dreamed of you again. You were so alive and healthy. Radiant. Oh, God…” The words trembled on a sob. “How I wish it were so.”
She longed to touch him; to trace his moustache, run her fingers through his hair...press her lips to his. Her arms ached to hold him close. Why is it he appeared so full of life when she’d watched him die? Day after day, she’d watched the strong, beautiful man wither away into a mere shell, and in one moment, with one final gasp of breath, his life was over.
“I visit you daily, yet everything seems so surreal. Like I’m walking through a dream.” She shoved the picture back onto the table, bit her lip and nearly choked on the hard knot of anger in her throat. “No, not a dream. Dreams are wonderful, full of hope and magic. This is a nightmare.”

 Research Tidbits

Not a whole lot. I did research the setting (Utopia, TX) but being familiar with the Texas Hill Country, writing descriptions was easy. The story is of one woman’s journey through grief into new life and parallels my own.

Interview Questions

What was your first published work and when was it published?

Tempered Hearts, book 1 in my series, was published in 2000.

If you had to choose one person to have dinner with, who would it be? And why?

Nora Roberts! She is my all-time-favorite author and I’d just love to sit and have a conversation about her life outside of writing.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Unfortunately, yes, LOL! While pregnant with my daughter who is now 39 I got tired of reading too many disappointing romances and thought I could do better. A bit arrogant because writing and writing well are two different things. However, that’s what got me started penning stories in 5-subject notebooks which I did for YEARS. After which came a word processor, then computer and as they say, the rest is History.
