Oklahoma Heatwave

I don't know about where you live, but here in Oklahoma, we have had several days in a row of heat advisories being issued. This past weekend was no exception.

I am on the board of the Chickasha Area Arts Council, and we had a booth at the first-ever Christmas in July in historical downtown Chickasha. The event didn't start until 5:00 pm, which here is the hottest time of the day it seems, with free live music, food trucks, vendors, events for the kiddos, and fireworks to end the evening.

I was asked if I would put a few of my crafts in the Arts Council booth as part of a fundraiser and I was more than happy to donate the proceeds to the council. Now the temps were in the 90s but the heat index was much higher. I only lasted about 2 hours in the booth before I retreated back to the Canadian River Brewery to cool off. I eventually headed home after feeling like I'd gotten my legs back under me. Anyway, long story short, I am sure I ended up with a mild case of heat exhaustion as I was feeling not quite myself for a little over 48 hours. Last night I turned the corner and had more energy and focus. Today I am feeling nearly 100%!

Lesson learned: remember to hydrate days before an outdoor event during a heatwave.

The other unfortunate thing that happened this weekend was the Leg Lamp, yes that leg lamp, was damaged in a storm that came through Sunday night. I am not sure if it is beyond repair or not. Hopefully, it can be repaired.

Also, if you are in the Central Oklahoma area, please stop by the Anadarko Community Library in Anadarko on August 6 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm for a multi-author event! Check out the library's Facebook page to read some of the author spotlights here!

That's it for now. I hope you all have a wonderful summer and remember to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Thank you for your continued support. Until we see each other again...

Hugs,

Maxine

Let's Catch Up!

Goodness so much has happened since last we corresponded. I hope that your summer has been filled with fun and love.

It has been over three years since I lost the love of my heart. I hadn’t realized just how much I had pushed aside until the other day. So, I will be doing my best to stay in the here and now to bring you a newsletter more often.

We all know what happened with COVID to all of us.

I lost my dog, Missy, to cancer. I gained a kitten shortly before that named Simon, who as you can tell is more than willing to be my assistant. And I became a great-grandma in December to a beautiful great-granddaughter.

I’ve been writing but slowly and hope to also improve in that area as well. I am working on the second book in the Men of the Double K series, and I have scheduled a contemporary romance for Christmas 2022 in the Christmas at the Inn series.

I have a private reader book club on Facebook where authors will share their new releases, sales, and excerpts. If you are interested, click here to join.

Remember the Angel Creek Christmas Brides series? Well, it is Christmas in July at Angel Creek. Starting this week each group published will have their books on sale for 99 cents! This week meet the 2018 Angel Creek Christmas brides all week at that special price of 99 cents. The Angel Creek Christmas Brides series Facebook page is here.

I won’t keep you any longer. Have a great Wednesday and until we meet again stay safe, have fun, and find your next book boyfriend.

Hugs,

Maxine
