August 1, 2015

It’s August, which means summer is almost over and the dog days of summer are upon us.  Some of you will be thinking of school clothes and supplies, while others will be thinking of the winter months ahead.  Why not spice up those cold winter nights with a good book from a local author?

Quote of the Month:  Let us tenderly and kindly cherish, therefore, the means of knowledge. Let us dare to read, think, speak, and write.” ~~ John Adams, President USA (1735-1826)

Featured Author:  Kae Elle Wheeler

When I first began writing I had this idea that Cinderella’s slipper fit one of her stepsisters.  Out of that came three books.  Cinderella’s, Pricilla (the sister with the larger foot, she is most sensitive about) and Esmeralda, the sister’s whose eyes bat so furiously they could change the weather and Prince Charming’s betrothal to the wrong girl.  The stories have done well, but spread throughout the reviews were comments like “Now we need to know what happens to the evil stepmother” and “I hope she gets her due”.  So The Price of Scorn - book iv:  Cinderella’s Evil Stepmother sucks the reader into Lady Hildegard Roche’s dark past.

BLURB
Fourteen years after Prince Charming and Cinderella are crowned as Chalmers King and Queen, Cinderella, Pricilla and Esmeralda gather at their mother’s deathbed.
Lady Hildegard Roche has nothing but resentment and scorn for the stepchild who culminates all that was stolen from her.
In a story of enlightenment and shock, the sisters learn how tragedy shaped their mother into the woman she became. The question is:  Can the sisters forgive her?

WIP Peek:  Book 1 in the Black Horse Canyon series

Kandi Kisses (Book 1):  Ex-porn star, Kandi, aka Clar Turner, returns to her home town a new woman to open up a candy store; she’s a candy maker on the trail of a serial porn star killer…
Jimmy O’Brien is a reporter who finds out the woman he’s fantasied about is on the “porn star” killer’s hit list. Can he find the killer before Kandi does?

Clar slung her bag over a shoulder and wove her way through the crowd. LAX swarmed with people and she needed to find a taxi before the droves of other people did. She glanced at a wall clock then stepped through the doors to snag a ride to LAPD when a sharp whistle caught her attention.
Shading her eyes from the morning sun, she caught a glimpse of a cowboy hat for a moment. Clar leaned slightly to the right and smiled. Under a cream colored Stetson was a shock of auburn waves and a face she’d hoped to see…Jackson Wolfe.
“Thanks for coming and it is good to see you.” Clar hugged her friend then burst into tears. “Let’s go Jacki, I need to find out what happened.”
“You know me. I had to be here for my BFF. While my plane was being readied, I did some digging on my own, but the cops won’t say much to me. Even with my contacts lingering around the precinct I hit a dead end. No one is talking, so either they haven’t much to go on or they’ve been told to keep a lid on it.” Jacki pulled the black F10 rental onto I90 and headed toward the 110 to downtown LA and police headquarters. “Evidently Jimmy O’Brien was one of the reporters at the scene so I’m betting he’ll show up sooner than later.”
Clar sighed and rested her head against the headrest. Jimmy was the last person she wanted to see. “Maybe you can help me avoid him, Jacki. I’m not up to him or his school boy crush antics.”

Current Contest(s):

Maxine’s Book Divas:  Hey Divas...I’ve already posted two writing prompts for fun with more to come, and if I can use one of them in my WIP, Kandi Kisses, you’ll get recognition and win a yet to be determined prize.
I’m getting to a point where Clar and Jimmy, as well as Jacki and Clint, will be going in undercover, so to speak, and the killer will soon be closing in.  Kandi Kisses is a romantic suspense, so get those suspicious minds working and create a 50 word sentence/paragraph using 5 words that immediately come to mind for each visual prompt.  You just might land a spot in a Kandi Kisses scene.
